Imlauer Hotel Pitter

The Imlauer Hotel Pitter, a superior and modern hotel with a long tradition, is situated in the center of the city of Salzburg, Austria. Its Conference Centre „Pitter Event Centre“ is located directly opposite Imlauer Hotel Pitter.

Nova-lux in a partnership with Austrian company 2F Leuchten was in charge of a Light design of the Ballroom (main Hall) in the Pitter event center.

Multifunctionality of lighting solution as well as adoptable light solutionfor  various dimensions of rooms (created with wall dividers) were some of very specific requests by the Client, which were very important inputs of the light design concept development. Following that inputs, we have created a light solution which will look the same will be manageable for the complete Ballroom, but on the same time a light solution which will look great when the Ballroom will be divided in rooms of various shapes and dimensions, and will be manageable from each division separately (each room). The light solution combined various light elements and groups allowing to create various lighting scenes for different purposes (congress, wedding, meeting, party, concert, dinner etc.).

The second group of requests from the Client was to create chandeliers which will not block the daylight from domes during day time, but during evenings and night, the Client prefer to have an elegant chandeliers lit in various colors, since hosting the weddings are very important activity of this event center and they should be organized in various colors during wedding ceremony.

When starting with light concept development, the idea was to create chandeliers made of crystals, since the crystal is transparent and will not block the light, but on the same time crystal is very nice material for reflecting light colors and creating a glamorous atmosphere with light. The product design development started from finding a shape of chandeliers that will allow us to adopt to the elliptical shape of domes on the ceiling, without blocking the middle part of domes. Also, it was not our intent to make a replica of some old chandeliers, but to create a modern and unique product. After a few concepts developed, the idea of two curved lines partially overlapped, with suspension of crystal spirals on various lengths of spirals, was the winning design. All further details were developed with a producer 2F Hotellicht (or 2F Leuchten). LED chips used in this project are RGBW, allowing to create various pastel colors of light (instead of RGB, which is more saturated).

Although the colorful  light in chandeliers are decorative, it is not suitable for the nice visual effect on faces during communication, therefore the additional functional light was necessary to be in white color of light. It is created by small recessed ceiling luminaires whose light beam is directed towards tables and people faces, which color of light is nice warm white.

In order to avoid sharp shadows on human face, we wanted to create also a diffuse, soft light by indirect lighting, therefore we have added LED strips hidden in the ceiling, above the ceiling beams, which provides a high level of comfort. The color of cove LED is also RGBW since the decorative light is more attractive in combination of two colors, and at the same time is offer warm white color of light for meetings, conferences, dinners etc. Finally, in order to create a colorful effect on the walls and curtains, ceiling recessed light fixtures on corners are also RGBW.

The ballroom is devided in 6 sections and the light design had to have a uniform light in each section separately. Light design scenarios are pre-programmed for different events and occasions in each part of the ballroom, and for all combinations of the separate parts of the ballroom as larger or smaller rooms.

As a final result, under the unique jewel-like glass domes, a custom made translucent chandeliers made of crystal spirals are positioned, creating an exceptional atmosphere in the whole ballroom, but also in separate rooms divided by wall dividers. Light solution is absolutely adoptable for all various occasions organized in the Pitter Event Centre of Imlauer Hotel Pitter in Salzburg, Austria.
