Café 3440, Wildspitzbahn, Austria
Café 3440 is Austria’s highest café, situated at the new Wildspitzbahn top station. The suspended terrace at exactly 3,440 m above sea level offers uninterrupted panoramic views of the Alpine scenery. Café 3.440 is encircled by more than fifty mountains higher than three thousand meters, from where you can enjoy the awesome Alpine panorama. For this fantastic Café we have cooperated with Austrian producer 2F Leuchten on developing of a specific lighting solution and a custom made light fixtures, which will create soft indirect light without any obstruction to people inside when looking outside (including from positions on the interior terrace) or from outside (when approaching towards the Café). For that purpose, a custom made LED light fixture was made with special asymmetric, diffuse, and not-glaring optics towards the curved ceiling, together with second optics for the lower zone. These light fixtures are mounted on poles which was the only position allowed by the Client.
The task of Nova-lux as partners on this light design project was to define the special optics of this light fixture by creating light calculation on the 3D model (various options were tested), as well as to make light visualizations prior to the product design, in order to show the planned light effect to the Client.
The final result of this project was a soft, indirect light reflected from the white ceiling of a specific curved shape, without any glare to people inside or outside the Cafe, allowing people to enjoy in a spectacular view.
