The Crowne Plaza Salzburg – The Pitter & Pitter Event Center is located in the Salzburg city centre, and it is a part of Imlauer Hotels and Restaurants. In October 2014, the hotel opened their brand-new Pitter Event Center, with 11 well-equipped and elegant conference rooms.
Qatar Handball Association Complex, known also as Duhail Sports Hall, opened in 2014, is one of the host venues for the Qatar 2015 Men’s Handball World Championship, which take place in Qatar from 15 January 2015 to 01 February 2015.
The object is designed by IGH with the Lead Designer IGH Otto Baric Architecture (Architectural and Interior) and WSP Middle East (Structural, MEP and Geotechnical Engineering). Light design (Exterior light design and partly Interior light design) is made by NOVA-LUX with the main light designer Diana Galic.
The Main Hall Capacity is 5,500 spectators. Total built-up area is approx. 40,000 square metres, it is constructed on a 30,000 square metres land area of softscaping, water feature, parking spaces and paved walkways. Besides the Main arena, designed in compliance with IHF requirements, this complex also includes 2 training halls, 60-bedroom players' accommodation, restaurant and lounges, QHA administration and media offices, presidential and exclusive lounges, medical centre, gymnasium, swimming pool and grandstands.
Light design was a challenging task since the building has very specific structure, consist of rhytmical parts of curved white structures with hexagon window openings and dark graey parts with entrances between them. The light concept developed in Nova-lux took in mind that the Handball arena will host various events and should be dynamic, colourfull and magnificent. After starting with accentuating the specific structure of the building with simple, elegant white lines of light, and accentuating the specific windows hexagon openings also with white light, we have made a contrast with impressive colourfull dynamic lighting on curved white structure. Since we didn’t want to cause glare to people exiting the arena, we created a combination of floodlighting by floor recessed luminaires for lower part of the structures and powerfull luminaires on poles positioned arround the arena for upper part of the structure. On that way, the whole object can be dynamic, playing together with the dynamic atmosphere within the arena. Entrance with the square in front of the main entrance toward Arena is accentuated with the light in handrail and decorative lighting on palms, while the public lighting is made by simplified design of poles in order to not to be obtrusive when looking towards the object, with smaller bollards on walking paths on a few green areas. Street and parking slots lighting is made according to required norms and standards. Finally, the overall light design tells a story of a dynamics, playfullness, power and elengancy.
